Gonstead Chiropractic FAQs

What is Gonstead Chiropractic?

Gonstead Chiropractic is a specific approach to chiropractic care that emphasizes a detailed examination of the spine and musculoskeletal system.

The Gonstead System uses a combination of patient history, visualization, palpation, instrument analysis, and other examination findings to identify areas of altered spinal mechanics.

The purpose is to determine whether a specific chiropractic adjustment is appropriate and, when appropriate, to make the adjustment as specifically as possible.

What makes the Gonstead System different from other chiropractic techniques?

One of the defining characteristics of the Gonstead approach is its emphasis on detailed analysis before the adjustment.

Rather than routinely adjusting the entire spine, the Gonstead approach seeks to identify specific areas that demonstrate findings consistent with a need for chiropractic care.

The examination may include:

  • Detailed patient history
  • Postural observation
  • Static and motion palpation
  • Instrument analysis
  • Weight-bearing assessment
  • Orthopedic testing
  • Neurological testing when appropriate

The findings are considered together to develop an individualized care plan.
